Sony announced a partnership with Spotify today to beef up the Playstation Music app.
What was once an overlooked feature may now get much more attention, as users can soundtrack their gaming sessions using the familiar Spotify interface. “This exclusive partnership brings the best in music and best in gaming together on Playstation Network,” said Eric Lempel, VP of Sony Network Entertainment, via the Playstation Blog.
The service is free to use provided you don't mind listening to advertisements every so often. Otherwise, paying the premium fee removes ads and you can listen freely without further constraints.
As part of the promotion, Sony and Spotify want you to try the premium version of the service (available for $9.99/month). They are offering 2 free months of Spotify Premium to Music Unlimited subscribers with accounts active as of March 29th. If you waited to sign up for Music Unlimited, it’s too late to take advantage of that offer, but there is another way to sample the premium experience. New and existing Spotify users can receive a one month free trial of Spotify Premium (unless that account has already used the free trial offer) to remove the before-mentioned ads.
