Google Left Twitch Deal Due to Antitrust

Just a short time away from closing the deal with Twitch, Google backed out due to major antitrust concerns as reported by Forbes.

Google currently owns the leading video content service YouTube and with both services competing for similar viewers, neither company could come to a proper agreement over a breakup fee if the deal went south. This eventually lead to the talks falling through even with them nearly reaching completion just last month.

Amazon has now officially acquired the game streaming giant for $970 million and will be bringing their established 50+ million subscribers over. “A lot of people were interested but Amazon offered the best deal,” said Bessemer Ventures Parters' Ethan Kurzweil.

Many are both excited and wary of the acquisition but Amazon has yet to state their plans to bring their practices into Twitch's infrastructure of an already established community. Amazon's last huge purchase was for online shoe ordering service Zappos in 2009.
