Koji Igarashi, the creator of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, has left Konami to do his own thing and makes games for himself and his fans.

In a statement with IGN, Igarashi said he's "decided to break out on my own to have the freedom to make the kind of games I really want to make -- the same kind I think fans of my past games want as well." Igarashi has been with Konami for the better part of 15 years and helped create one of the most influential Castlevania's in the franchise.

Igarashi's last day was Saturday March 15th and he's set to give a talk at this week's Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
