Matt Firor, game director at ZeniMax Online Studios, addressed the PlayStation community on Europe’s PlayStation Blog to let fans know that even though The Elder Scrolls Online requires a subscription of $14.99, an additional PlayStation Plus membership is not necessary.
When asked specifically if ESO would require a PS+ account, Firor responded, “A PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play The Elder Scrolls Online.” He continued saying, “PS4 players will only be required to pay the same monthly subscription associated with The Elder Scrolls Online that PC and Mac users will pay — nothing more.” PlayStation Plus memberships are required to play most games online on the PS4, but it seems it will not be needed and users can avoid the additional $49.99 per year on top of the $59.99 game and $14.99 subscription.
What has not been addressed is the possibility of a discount for Plus members, although that seems very unlikely. Disappointing? Yes, just a little bit. Maybe we're paying for this massive talent tree of voice actors.
