Nintendo Presents: The Nintendo 2DS?

In a very odd turn of events, Nintendo announced the new 2DS; a variation of their 3DS releasing this October for $129.99.

When asked about the newest redesigned handheld in an interview with Kotaku, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said, "We expect consumers to use it just the way they use a current 3DS and, really, from a target standpoint, this is designed for that entry-level gamer. For a family of four with two kids, when you're looking at spending either $169.99 or $199.99 for two this holiday, now you've got a more affordable choice with Nintendo 2DS."

Although releasing a new handheld at a more affordable cost makes sense from a production value viewpoint, time will tell if Nintendo's product labeling is causing confusion, and some disappointed children, this upcoming holiday.
