Just a few months after EA dropped their online passes, and Sony proclaiming first party studios were no longer doing them, Ubisoft has followed suit and officially put the Uplay Passport in the ground.
In an official statement on the Uniblog (worst. name. ever.), Communication Manager Gary Steinman stated, "Uplay Passport will not be a part of any future Ubisoft games." According to the blog, it seems people were quite annoyed with the program. So much so that Ubisoft pulled it completely from it as well as all future titles. In reference to ACIV, Steinman said, "We listen to our community and understand that there are concerns over some players’ ability to access this feature, so we have decided to eliminate the cost of the Uplay Passport for Black Flag."
Those who have purchased it already will be notified of refund opportunities. Any players who purchased a used copy of the game and couldn't play online can download a free passport downloaded.
I'm so incredibly happy these passes are a thing of the past. Here's hoping they don't come back from the dead.
