I've long wanted a game like this to exist for a long time. There are plenty of “Metroidvania” style games out there, but Guacamelee! easily rivals all of them.
As Juan the agave farmer, you'll be tasked with saving El Presidente’s daughter from Carlos Calaca, a skeleton with a poor disposition. The combat felt great and rewarding, switching between the worlds of the living and dead was seamless, and the upgrade system was intuitive and well timed. Another aspect I really liked was that there are quite a few of hidden Easter Eggs for our favorite franchises with a Mexican twist. The humor in Guacamelee! is fantastic. There is a co-op feature built in, but the real way to play this game, I found, was by myself. The screen can become cluttered with somebody else jumping all over the place aimlessly.
Drinkbox Studios included a cross-controller function where the Vita works as your PS3 controller and displays the map. It isn't much, but I found myself using the Vita more frequently as both the primary console for the game and my primary controller. When I switched to the PS3, I used the Vita as the controller because of how natural it felt. At $14.99 as a cross buy, cross controller, and cross save game, this is a must purchase.
